There aren’t many fine dining establishments in the 18th arrondissement for that special occasion. But they’re there and Kim, a Montmartroise for the last 7 years, shares her favourite places. A guest post by Kim Laidlaw-Adrey The 18th arrondissement in Paris is a vast and varied neighbourhood, and its diverse range of restaurants reflects its many facets: romantic spots, traditional places, bustling joints, local favourites, world food - there’s something for every appetite and every budget. There is also an excellent selection of high-end restaurants for those occasions when you want to indulge or have something to celebrate. Here below are my top recommendations for fine dining in Montmartre. Chamarré Montmartre Smart cuisine d’auteur from chef Antoine Heerah

At least in Montmartre, the ”macarons fever” is very recent. Two years ago, it was not part of the offerings of the boulangeries or patisseries in our neighbourhood. Almost overnight late 2009 , every one of them, big and small, had them. “Tourists keep asking for them,” says my favourite boulanger/patissier as some sort of explanation. But there is more to sweet Paris than just macarons. Just step into any patisserie you will find in every street corner of the city and your sweet dreams will be more like a delirium. I promise you, macarons will be the last thing you will look or ask for. Tom Reeves of Discover Paris has listed some of his favourites to guarantee you a sugar hit when you come visit. (And two of them are in Montmartre! Hooray for my sweet tooth!) Paris Sweets for the Sweet Guest . . . → Read More: Macarons Are Not The Only Dessert
Very recently, somebody asked for more recommendations for budget restaurants in Paris. “Please, not French cuisine!” was the important condition. As I am also always on the look-out for exotic adventures when it comes to eating out in Paris, I asked Monique and Tom of Discover Paris if they could recommend some, if possible, in and around Montmartre. Below are some of their recommendations, a list that I personally will keep. (Les Majungais, expect me soon… for that Poulet au Coco!) Guest post by Monique Wells Paris’ eating establishments are the perfect reflection of its multicultural population. Here are a few foreign (not French cuisine) restaurants that we recommend: Armelle et Henri Armelle et Henri in Montmartre has unique décor, friendly service, and quality food. We like their Belle Capresse preparation of chicken or pork – the marinade consists of coconut cream, curry, . . . → Read More: Not French Cuisine In Paris
We’ve been asked for advice so often by our young studio guests as to what bars we could recommend in the Montmartre area. Not bar goers ourselves, we could only name the ones we’ve been to (1 or 2 times in a year) but which we could not seriously recommend. So, we asked the expert, Forest Collins aka @52martinis, a Montmartroise and cocktail blogger for advice. Here are her recommendations: Find that martini in Montmartre Guest post by Forest Collins Legendary Montmartre is a tourist’s dream. It’s historical, beautiful and somewhat insulated. This area merits at least a day to wander the cobblestone streets, browse the funky boutiques and climb the steps of the Sacré Coeur. While the Butte is busting with bars, brasseries and bistros, try some of the more interesting stops for refreshment. For idyllic respite, head to the backside of Montmartre for a drink at the discreet Hotel . . . → Read More: Bars at the Butte Montmartre |
